Okay I know that most of you are already decorated for Christmas but I still believe Thanksgiving needs to feel special. To me Thanksgiving is a time to gather with loved ones, share a meal, and give thanks for all the blessings in our lives. Even though I do not go all out with decorations for Thanksgiving I do love making a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape. Creating a beautiful tablescape helps set the mood for an unforgettable feast. So I thought I would share a few steps of setting up a tablescape for Thanksgiving that will impress your guests and also won’t break the bank.

Simple ideas to help set your

Thanksgiving Tablescape

Choose your Colors:

My first step is always choose a theme or color scheme. Thanksgiving is typically associated with warm, earthy colors like brown, orange, and gold. You can also incorporate natural elements like leaves, pumpkins, and branches to bring the outdoors inside. Once you have a theme or color scheme in mind, you can start selecting your decorations.

Foundation:

The next thing you should focus on is the centerpiece. Your centerpiece is the focal point of your table scape, so it’s important to choose something that is both eye-catching and in keeping with your theme. A floral arrangement is always a classic choice, but you can also get creative with a grouping of candles, a vase filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables, or a rustic wooden tray filled with pine cones and acorns.

Once you have your centerpiece, it’s time to start layering. Add some texture and dimension to your table scape with linens and table runners. A simple burlap or linen table runner is a great choice for a rustic, natural look. You can also add a pop of color with a patterned or brightly colored tablecloth.

Next I add place settings for each guest. I like to start with adding another layer of texture and color with chargers. On top of those you can use simple white plates for a classic look, or choose something more festive like patterned or colored plates. Or you can be like me and pick up the nice plastic or paper plates to make clean up even easier. And don’t forget to add silverware, glasses, and napkins to each setting.

Placement:

Now that you have your main set up complete I would think about if you will be placing the food on your table or on another space. Even if I do not place all the food on my table I like to at least have plates set for rolls, butter, sauces and gravy on my table so people do not have to get up multiply times.  I like to add those in when I am setting up the table so I know we have space for these items.

Next it’s time to add some decorative elements to your tablescape. Candles are always a great choice for adding warmth and ambiance. You can use pillar candles in varying heights for a dramatic effect, or opt for tea lights or votives for a more subtle glow. If you’re feeling crafty, you can even make your own candle holders using mini pumpkins or gourds.

Other decorative elements to consider include place cards. If you are creative you can create unique and personalized place cards by using calligraphy (I wish I had that talent) or printing out each guest’s name on it. Seasonal foliage like small pumpkins, gourds, eucalyptus, pine branches, or fall leaves can be used to create a natural, organic feel.

Creating a beautiful table scape for Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Remember to chose your colors first, next set a foundation and finally work on your placement. With a little creativity and a few key elements, you can set a beautiful table that will impress your guests and make the day even more special. So gather your loved ones around the table, give thanks for all the blessings in your life, and enjoy a delicious feast in style.
