As we approach 2024, You might be starting to think about house projects you are wanting to work on in the new year. I know I have already made my list. To help you out I thought I would share a few home design trends that I see becoming more poplar and also personally like. With the ever-changing landscape of home design, it’s a good idea to stay up to date with the latest styles and trends but remember you do not need to change the home you love just to keep up.
With home design there are always many different styles, options and opinions and it can get overwhelming. So here are 8 home design trends that I think we will see a lot of this year and also I think are easy to incorporate into our own homes.
8 Home Design Trends for 2024
Color:
Yes I always start of with color! I believe that color is the foundation of design. So many people focus on “the style” when they should be focusing on “the color”. I see that gone are the days of all gray, white on white on white look. I am going to tell you right now, do not stress. Like most of us, your home is probably white or gray but you do not need to change everything to get an updated look.
In the past few years, home design has seen a shift back towards more neutral, beige, and brown tones. This trend has become increasingly popular due to its versatility and timeless appeal. Beiges and browns are considered universal colors that can easily blend with other colors, patterns, and textures. They can be used as a base for bold accent colors (that we are also going to be seeing more of) or as a complement to other neutral tones.

We will also see bold and moody colors still being popular. These colors can be used on cabinets, wall paneling, trim and even ceilings. Another color we will see this year is red. No not the bright cherry red, think more of the historic, rich reds, even burgundy reds. These colors will be great for accents. And I can not leave out the blues. Both Sherwin Williams and Ben Moore chose a shade of blue for their 2024 Colors of the Year. If you need inspiration for how to use these color check out my color pallets.
Wall Treatments:
Trends in home design continue to evolve and wall treatments are no exception. When I am asked if they should paint one wall a different color as an accent I try and steer them in a different direction. I think homeowners should look towards ways to add character to their walls with texture, color, and pattern in order to create a unique and personalized space.
We can expect that wallpaper will continue to be a popular choice for homeowners looking to add color and pattern to their walls. I think that bold and graphic prints will be particularly popular. Geometric shapes, abstract patterns, and floral prints.
In addition to wallpaper, we expect that textured wall treatments will also be popular. Textured walls can add depth and interest to a room, and there are many options to choose from. Some popular options include wood paneling, textured plaster, and exposed brick. I think homeowners will be drawn to accent walls in bold, dark colors such as navy blue, hunter green, and charcoal gray. These colors can add drama and sophistication to a room, while still allowing other elements in the space to shine.
Shifting away from Ultra Minimalist:
In 2024, we can expect a shift away from ultra minimalist home design as people begin to crave more warmth and personality in their living spaces. I personally could not make this style work with my lifestyle, so I am not to sad to see it go. While the clean lines and sparse decor of minimalism have been popular for years, many are now finding it to be too sterile and impersonal.
Instead, we may see a rise in bohemian and eclectic design styles, with a focus on natural materials, bold patterns, and unique decor. This trend towards maximalism is all about embracing individuality and creating spaces that reflect our personal tastes and interests.
This shift away from minimalism is also reflective of how people live real life. Rather than striving for perfection and a perfectly curated home, people are seeking out spaces that feel comfortable, welcoming, and nurturing.
Curves are in:
Curves have become a popular feature in home design, and it’s easy to see why. Not only do they add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space, but they also create a sense of flow, softness and movement that is both calming and inviting.
In 2024, expect to see curves incorporated into everything from furniture to architecture. Rounded sofas and chairs will be a common sight in living rooms. Curved walls, archways. rounded windows, curved staircases, and even circular rooms are just a few examples of the unique touches that can be added to a home to make it stand out. Whether you’re going for a modern or traditional look, curves are a versatile and timeless design element that will add a touch of grace and beauty to any home.

Mixing Old with New:
One of my favorite trends is mixing the old with the new. This trend involves blending modern elements with vintage or antique pieces to create a unique and personalized style. Whether you live in a traditional Victorian home or a contemporary apartment, incorporating old and new pieces can add character and depth to any space.
One way to achieve this look is to mix different styles of furniture. For example, pairing a sleek, modern couch with a vintage armchair can create an interesting contrast. Another way to incorporate old and new elements is through the use of decorative accents, such as vintage lamps or antique mirrors.
When mixing old with new, it’s important to strike a balance between the two. Too much of one style can make a space feel cluttered or overwhelming. Instead, aim for a cohesive look by choosing pieces that complement each other in terms of color, texture, and scale. Overall, mixing old with new is a great way to create a unique and personalized home design. By incorporating vintage and antique pieces into a modern space, you can create a look that is both stylish and timeless.
It’s all about Texture & Pattern:
It’s clear that texture and pattern will play a major role in shaping the look and feel of our living spaces this year. One of the most notable trends we’re seeing is the use of bold patterns in everything from wallpaper, tile to throw pillows. I also love seeing texture and patterns in unexpected ways. Maybe added to the ceiling or changing up materials in the same space like you bathroom.

Patterns such as stripes, herringbone and checkerboard are great and timeless. Other great options are inspired by nature, with motifs like leaves, flowers, and waves adding a touch of organic charm to modern interiors. Another popular texture trend for 2024 is the use of tactile materials like natural or painted wood, stone, and concrete. These materials bring a sense of warmth and depth to living spaces, and they’re often paired with contrasting textures like soft, plush fabrics to create a cozy yet sophisticated ambiance.
In addition, you will also be seeing a renewed interest in artisanal techniques like hand-weaving, embroidery, and macramé. These techniques allow for the creation of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that add a touch of personality and individuality to any home. Whether you’re a fan of bold patterns or understated textures, there’s sure to be a trend in home design that speaks to your personal style and taste.
Timeless Traditional Style :
We are talking about “trends” but I believe choosing pieces that are timeless and traditional for your home can help you create a space that never goes out of style. While trends come and go, classic design elements remain relevant and stylish for years to come. Traditional elements also give us a sense comfort and homes from our childhood. Here are some tips to help you achieve a timeless look for your home.
Firstly, focus on neutral colors for your major pieces such as main flooring, walls and furniture. Bright, bold colors can be trendy, but they can also quickly become outdated. Neutral colors like beige, gray, browns and white provide a clean and classic look that will never go out of style.
Secondly, invest in high-quality, timeless pieces of furniture. Look for pieces made from natural materials such as wood, leather, and linen. These materials are durable and look better with age, making them a smart investment for your home and a great base for the rest of your home.
Thirdly, embrace classic patterns and textures for your main pieces. Stripes, checks, and plaids are timeless patterns that can add interest and depth to your home. When it comes to textures, consider natural fibers like wool and cotton, which are both durable and comfortable.

Personalize & Mixing Styles:
Finally the design trend that I think should always be in style, making your home your own! For years we have followed the perfectly, color coordinated, looks like no one lives in the space homes. I personally like to many different styles to pick just one. I want to see homes that are warm, decor with character, pieces that are interesting and tell our story.
“We are all so unique and our homes
need to reflect that!”
I believe that mixing home design styles can be a fun and creative way to add personality and uniqueness to your space. And it can also be overwhelming. To achieve a cohesive look, it’s important to find a common element between the styles you want to mix, such as a color palette or a specific material. You can also blend the styles gradually by adding small accents or focal pieces, or by layering textures and patterns. Remember, there are no strict rules when it comes to mixing design styles – it’s all about finding a balance that reflects your personal taste and lifestyle.
No matter the size of home project you have planned this year, I hope these 8 2024 Home Design Trends will be helpful to you. Always start with color and the other trends like wall treatments, shifting from minimalist, adding curves, textures, patterns, mixing old with new or selecting timeless styles, will all help you make your home your own!
